In addition to being the home of various animals, the Helsinki Zoo also hosts hundreds of different plant species. Therefore, the Zoo pays great attention to the optimal lighting of their interior areas where animals and plants coexist. Until now the Zoo has used traditional high pressure sodium (HPS) lamps, but as these did not provide sufficient light for the plants, the Helsinki Zoo decided to look for other lighting options for its Africa – Asia House.

The FirstenLED LED Under cabinet lighting were selected due to their unique light spectra that have been optimized for plants.

Timo Paasikunnas, Head Keeper of Reptiles, Amphibians and Invertebrates at Helsinki Zoo comments: “The LED lights have brought natural colors of the plants visible during the times when artificial light is used. Lighting also enables us to widen the plant selection away from shade plants towards sun plants and we can have flowering plants, even on the “forest floor”.

What makes the employed FirstenLED ARCH spectrum especially unique is its light: the light is perceived as white by the human and animal eyes, but at the same time it contains all the information plants need for growing and prospering. Consequently, FirstenLED’s LED downlight enhance plant growth and are pleasant for the animal and human eye as well. Therefore FirstenLED’s lights can be placed into spaces where plants coexist with humans and animals.

In addition to the superior spectrum, the Helsinki Zoo chose FirstenLED’s grow lights because the LED’s provide extensive led spotlight and the robust fixtures warrant a long lifespan for the luminaires.

About FirstenLED

Cree Introduces the Next Bearing of Lighting-Class LEDs.January.12, 2012 – 08:48 — jasminezhuang

.Advanced LED Belvedere Doubles Lumens-per-Dollar to Accelerate Accepting of LEDs

Driving the next bearing of boilerplate LED lighting adoption, Cree, Inc. introduces the advance XLamp® XB-D LED. The aboriginal LED based on an avant-garde new Cree technology platform, the XLamp XB-D LED ushers in a new era of price-performance for lighting-class LEDs. This LED can added abridge designs, ultimately removing a key barrier to boundless LED implementation—up-front arrangement cost.

The XB-D LED delivers alert the lumens-per-dollar of added LEDs, in the led downlight industry’s aboriginal lighting-class brand of 2.45 mm x 2.45 mm. The XB-D LED is 48 percent abate than the XLamp XP amalgamation and ideal for lighting applications area top lumen body and bunched ablaze sources are required. The innovations abaft this next bearing of lighting-class LEDs can accredit decidedly lower prices for LED lighting articles by application up to three times beneath LEDs, three times beneath eyes and essentially abate ambit boards than accepted designs.

“Being a baton agency carrying revolutionary, not evolutionary, addition to drive the LED cabinet light revolution,” said Mike Watson, Cree chief administrator of marketing, LED components. “With this new belvedere Cree has fundamentally redefined the price-performance archetype for our apparatus customers. It’s not abundant to just accomplish LEDs brighter—it’s aswell about convalescent artefact aftereffect and bazaar accepting of LED lighting.”

Leveraging Cree’s accurate silicon carbide technology and expertise, the XB-D LED delivers up to 139 lumens and 136 lumens per watt in air-conditioned white (6000K) or up to 107 lumens and 105 lumens per watt in balmy white (3000K), both at 350 mA and 85°C.

XB-D LEDs are aswell accordant with a lot of absolute XP ancestors accessory optics, g4 led which can acceleration the optical architecture action and actualize absolute amount accumulation for absolute XP family-based designs

Many people know that today’s version of low-energy lighting, using compact fluorescent equipment and lighting may be the wrong technology. Led downlight is not expensive to buy, but they have several practical disadvantages, as well as significant ecological problems within their production and disposal. Although they can be evidently the wrong solution, up to now the proper way to go has been too expensive for domestic use.

The brighter future is a light-emitting diode led spot lights. Based on a far more efficient light source and creating a purer white light, the affordable LED light bulb is seemingly in the reach at last. Consistent with Prof Colin Humphreys with Cambridge University’s Centre with regard to Gallium Nitride, the new breed of LED lamp bulbs can last 60 years and could slash the proportion of electricity raised for lighting from 20 to just five percent.

In Britain, this could get rid of the need for eight electrical power stations. Even better, the new bulbs don’t contain mercury and they are dimmable.

Humphreys says, “We are very close to achieving highly efficient, low-cost white LEDs that can take the place of both traditional and currently available low-energy light bulbs. This is possibly the holy grail with regard to providing our lighting needs money. That won’t just be good news for the environment; it will benefit consumers by reducing their electricity bills”.

New recipe

LED lamps are not new by any means and they are already used widely in flashlight bulbs, camera flash versions, vehicle lights and display lighting in shops, to mention a few applications. But for ‘general lighting service’ (that’s ordinary lamp bulbs to you and me), the production costs are too expensive for widespread use in homes and offices.

Colin Humphreys’ breakthrough at Cambridge University has been to make the new LEDs from Gallium Nitride (GaN), a man-made semiconductor that emits a superb bright light but uses very little electricity. His team has developed a new way of getting GaN that could produce LEDs to get a tenth of current prices.

The new technique evolves GaN on silicon wafers, which achieves a 50 % improvement in cost and efficiency on previous solutions employing expensive wafers of sapphire, used since your 1990s. The idea is which commercially-produced versions of Humphreys’ LED are going to be in use around homes and offices within five years.

Fine tuning

Demonstrating a concept in the lab is one thing, but refining it for mass production is an additional. The light produced by most ‘white’ LEDs tends to experience a blue-ish cast, which is not really suitable for domestic illumination. The ‘golden yellow’ LEDs are certainly not ideal either. Humphreys says that by employing a phosphor to that LED, it can build a more agreeable white gentle.

Another stumbling block to help overcome is turning point sources of light into a light bulb or globe that radiates everywhere. LEDs used in torches, spotlights and vehicle face and tail lights tend to be focused in a sole direction. This glare is actually unwelcome in homes together with offices, where people prefer a much more omnidirectional and diffuse light source.

The team at Cambridge is in addition carrying out research into more specialist but both equally vital applications for GaN lightweight. They want to see how these could mimic sunlight to help three million people in the uk with Seasonal Affective Condition (SAD). Ultraviolet rays produced from GaN lighting could also aid water purification and disease control in increasing countries, identify the spread of cancer tumours and help fight hospital ‘super bugs’.

On the proper lines

One field where existing LED technological know-how is making rapid inroads is usually aboard trains, even though you might not have noticed. Here, ruggedness, low maintenance and reduced power consumption outweigh the first installation cost of retro-fit LED lighting. The figures training well, as this case from British firm Dialight demonstrates.

A typical fluorescent-tube lighting installation on a commuter train requires 2kW of electricity to achieve adequate brightness for reading. LED fixtures can achieve the identical lighting level from 500W, reducing may be voltage converters from 42 tommers skærm to just four. Reflectors control the direction of light along the carriage ceiling via several optical beam patterns, rather than bouncing it straight down to the floor. With lights left on in trains for 16 hours a day, it’s obvious that vital energy savings are possible.

Another British firm actively involved in exploiting the market for ‘lighting class’ LEDsis Zetex, which employs a lot more than 750 people worldwide. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, let me just mention that Zetex is the semiconductor division of that Ferranti company of prolonged heritage. Its ZXLD1362 switching DIRECTED driver operates from feedback voltages of 6V to 60V at around 95 per cent productivity. The smallest of its kind only at that current rating, it can drive around 16 high-power LEDs through an adjustable output current as high as 1A.

The race is usually on

With the world’s nations determined to develop their way out of your recession and also lower energy consumption, the race is up on develop more efficient types of solid-state lighting. Cambridge University’s breakthrough in white LEDs might lead to mass manufacture in the uk. Prof Humphreys is well alert to the technical difficulties of growing LEDs for a silicon substrate, but is actually optimistic nevertheless.

He instructed trade paper Electronics Every week: “We have only recently been working for a year or so and we are still for a steeply rising curve. [Nevertheless] our way can be so much cheaper, I think it is probably commercially viable even now”. His team is working together with QinetiQ, formerly known as being the Defence Evaluation & Exploration Agency, and the German manufacturer Aixtron to show its science into some sort of commercial production process.

The us government is also backing that LED lighting revolution, with an $18. 5 million five-year award on the Smart Lighting Engineering Explore Center at Rensselaer Polytechnic Company in Troy, New York. A recent study written by RPI professors Tom Schubert and Jong Kyu Betty issued ‘a call to help arms for scientists together with engineers’, stating that over the following 10 years savings of more than $1. 8 trillion will eliminate the need to burn almost a thousand barrels of oil in power plants that will otherwise produce 10 gigatons in carbon dioxide emissions.

“Such enormous savings will derive from replacing 80 per cent of traditional lighting with LEDs in the next 10 years. And besides replacement, there are new capabilities possible in this lighting revolution”, declared Prof Jong Kyu Betty.

One of the best applications under development with RPI is spectrum control, which they say will enable the color of lighting to be altered during the day to influence the spirits of workers positively, as well as curing certain medical problems that are caused today by poor lighting conditions.

2, long life: LED lamp beads can work 50,000 hours longer than fluorescent and incandescent.
3, the adjustable light: the former has been dimmer for incandescent, incandescent red light when dimmed; difficult to see the fluorescent light tone
Optical device, which is not dimming technology for many years the main development; now can also dimming the LED, or light and whether it is
Dark light are the same color (color temperature is essentially the same), which is significantly better than incandescent dimmer.
4, can frequently switch: LED life time is counted by light, even thousands of times per second switch does not affect the LED life, in the loading
Ornaments and other occasions that require frequent light off, LED lights have an absolute advantage.
5, color-rich: there are white, warm white, red, green, blue and other colors, whether it is next to the living room for decorative lamps
Small lights or led fluorescent tube, very bright.
6, low heat: like spotlights, the spotlight does not need a lot of 220V is also broken a few days is because of fever. 12V halogen spotlights fever
Although the amount is lower than 220V for lighting, but there are insufficient because of the power distribution transformers and other reasons, the brightness of less than the nominal value. Shot with LED
Lights, transformers can not work long hours.

led downlight is to use light-emitting diodes as light sources lighting. Use more conventional halogen spotlights, light-emitting efficiency is low, more power, increased by exposure to ambient temperature, short life. LED in the light principle, energy saving, environmental protection levels are much better than traditional lighting products. And the LED light on the formation of one-way light spotlights with perfect support.
Optical properties

LED provides a lot of half-width of the monochromatic light, the semiconductor energy gap decreases with increasing temperature, so its emission peak wavelength with temperature rise and growth, that spectral red shift, the temperature coefficient of 2 ~ 3A /. LED brightness L and approximately proportional to forward current. Current increases, the brightness is similar increases.
led downlight life
led downlight LED light thanks to the solid way, life depends primarily on solid LED light source and drive cooling, the present life LED light source has up to 100,000 hours, LED technology continues with the development and application of technology, a lot of popularity in the drive and cooling also essential to achieve a more satisfactory state of commercially available high-quality led downlight basic to 10000-50000 hours of life, almost 10-50 times more common halogen spotlights.
Energy-saving LED lighting products for more than 80%, almost maintenance-free, there is no part of the problem must be frequently changed, the cost savings of about six months down the cost can be exchange. Environment-friendly semiconductor light source, light and soft, pure spectrum eye protection and favor of the workers health.
price led spot lights
As the LED bulb halogen spotlights in structure than the complex, so even in the case of mass production, product prices will be higher than the halogen. However, as more and more people understand and accept, and the scale of production spread slowly, led spot lights of the price will soon reach an acceptable level of people. If you count the time to buy an energy-saving account, you will find that even the higher price now, in one year, based on the initial purchase cost of electricity a year than traditional halogen spotlights have. The LED bulb life can already now up to 30,000 hours.
